Question for you musicians who have changed styles.

Now, I have never done "pure Glam" and I have always dabbled with other styles of music. But I was wondering how many of you have also switched styles, and if you feel "guilty" about it at all, and what brought about your changes?

For me, my change is always pretty much to the same style. If I am not banging out a noisey electric noise, I am using my 12 string and doing a seriously Celtic infused style. It is one of the only times playing a guitar when I actually feel like I step into another mindset. When I get into that groove, I just shut everything out.

I've been doing the switch back and forth for years (probably about 15), but now it is seeming like it might become more permanent, thanks to there being nobody to put a band together with.

Have any of you made drastic changes, either out of a need to get away, a break, or out of neccesity? For me the 12 string is a major love interest, as with the acoustic. I just hate it when they are abused for things such as "ballads"! [img]wink.gif[/img]

As for your quetion Carl...
I was never into one style in the music.
I tend to write and do what ever music style I feel at the moment.
The bands I were in, went from Glam style to Skid Row style....then went from Glam Punk and and now Industrial....I could never fall into one genre of music...do to the fact...that I get bored of something if it's the same all the time.
When I'm hearing music...I'm the same way too...In my stereo at this very moment:
Vader, The Jesus And Marychain, Native American Flute, American Heartbreak, and Pink Cream 69.

Hey Carl, good topic.
I love music that is passion driven, where you can feel the songwriters feeling or mood when it was conceived. There is a broad spectrum of music that I have enjoyed over the years. My first band back in 82 when I was 15 was very euro-metal, but I was into all kinds of hard rock/metal/punk at the time. I always enjoyed bands that had first, great songs, and had a cool show and image. Then my next band was PBF which was quite glam when we started, then went more into an LA Guns kinda look. With Grandma Moses I wanted to do something more like Hanoi, hard rock with a punky edge. McRackins I was asked to join and that was pure pop punk, which I really got into because it so much fun to act like a idiots. Retreads is more Social D kind of vein and I'm really diggin' that as well. I have made a few concious decisions to do certain things over the years, be it out of boredom or just wanting to mix it up.

I usually align my writing style to whatever band/genre I happen to be playing at the time. I think I've stayed closer to the punk vein over last 5 years because the people involved in the scene help each other out. The past rock/alternative scenes I've been involved in, I found a lot of people were very cut throat and cliquey. I enjoy glam, but I don't like bands that are void of a bit of toughness. I also write a majority of my tunes on acoustic, then translate it to electric or not, depending.

When The Retreads split a few years back. I took a break from being in a band for about 2 years. I felt I needed a break after doing it non-stop for 20 years. Now it feels great to playing again. I feel re-charged.

i typically sell out to whatever the latest craze is. last year i was punk/pop like good charlotte (though us REAL punk rockers know that green day is real punk and not good charlotte, right?) the year before that i was country, hoping to score a duet with shania, but the restraining order she slapped on me prevented that. this year it's all about the bling bling. i'm a hardcore gangsta rapper from the ghetto. i go under the name Creepa Creep and the Posse. all the bitches and hos down at the mall represent me straight up word.
